type='text'>Predictions coming true...

In a post dated way back in 2002, <a services growing beyond size limits and getting integrated with search features. Could his prediction be any nearer to reality now? That's what I would call vision.

what's in store for the future OS? GooOS?

Yet another offering from the google for changing the way we access the net? Its very likely that they come up with something like an 'Online operating system'

Read Great post about what Google is up to by Rich Skrenta.

What are all those OS Researchers doing at Google?

Rob Pike has gone to Google. Yes, that Rob Pike -- the OS researcher, the member of the original Unix team from Bell Labs. This guy isn't just some labs hood ornament; he writes code, lots of it. Big chunks of whole new operating systems like Plan 9.

Look at the depth of the research background of the Google employees in OS, networking, and distributed systems. Compiler Optimization. Thread migration. Distributed shared memory.

I'm a sucker for cool OS research. Browsing papers from Google employees about
distributed systems, thread migration, network shared memory, GFS, makes me
feel like a kid in Tomorrowland wondering when we're going to Mars. Wouldn't
it be great, as an engineer, to have production versions of all this great
research.

Google engineers do!

And we netizens have a lot to look forward to!

I should rather be cycling

Oil prices are on the rise..And we are not very sure how long the fossil fuel is going to last.

In three years time, An Indian will pay about Rs 100 for a liter of petrol. That's more than 200% rise from the current level. On no foreseeable account , I see my earnings grow as much. Well, that calls for some different approach to the way I commute.

Should I just walk? Its fun. But very costly in terms of time consumed. If I tread the 5 miles to my office at my best possible pace, it takes about a hour. I could rather be wasting that time on net browsing lots of sites..

Cycling? The very idea spells adventure. In every sense. We are talking about peddling through the busy bangalore traffic. Pandemonium is an another apt term for road traffic here. I am not sure my life insurance coverage is high enough.

But still, I should be cycling. My cycle will not contribute to global warming (those poor penguins in the arctic region..), will not emit any toxic gases, and might help me reduce by waist line better than the gadget they showed me on TV. And as the cycle ad goes, the feeling of wind blowing through your hair, and the earth rushing past under you..

When will they finally come up with fuel cell cars? Or solar cars? Or cars which breath carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen?

And we should have buses and trucks which takes garbage as fuel and exhaust some pleasant aromatic vapors...

All these could only enhance my cycling experiences..
